Laura Tivendale takes first prize at Broadwood
On key: harpsichordist Laura Tivendale
The contest, which took place last month, required participants play
instruments from the Benton Fletcher Collection of Early Keyboard Instruments. A
Royal Academy of Music graduate with first class honours, Tivendale played the 1600 Vincentius
virginals, the 1664 Hatley virginals, and the 1761 Shudi harpsichord, winning
first place. The judging panel, made up of BBC journalist Lucie Skeaping and
Peter Thresh, plus harpsichordist Sharon Gould, placed Charlotte Wilson second,
while also highly commending Bojana Dimkovic and giving a special mention to
Nathaniel Mander.
Twenty-six-year-old Tivendale has previously won a
number of prestigious awards, including the Harold Samuel Bach Prize for two
years running, and the Howard Carr Memorial Prize in 2007. As the harpsichordist
of the Little Baroque Company,
Laura has been broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and won the Audience Price at the first
Fenton House Ensemble Competition. She will also be performing in a series of
engagements at the Cobbe Collection at Hatchlands in Surrey, Finchcocks in Kent
and the Russell Collection in Edinburgh.
